BIRDS CLASS – MAKE ONE OR TWO BEAUTIFUL HOLLOW FORMS SUCH AS GOOSE, GULL, PARTRIDGE FOR YOUR XMAS PEAR TREE… Easter display, marine theme, etc. in  3 hrs, $50 ea. (with 4 bookings)

October 17th, 2009 CLAY WHISTLE / OCARINA MAKING

MAKE A SET OF 3 TO 6 WHISTLES per student IN SIMPLE ANIMAL SHAPES in one session (2.5 hrs) $35 each. OCT/NOV/until 15 DEC – book class to suit your family or holiday guests. Whistles usually ready to collect in 10 days.

This class works for ages 6 to 96, family groups, etc. Four to six people $120.

June 2nd, 2008 Ceramic Studio Worktime

Make what you like in the studio, practise or finish projects started at home, glaze, recycle your clay - 

Wednesdays 3 to 6 pm or later, Saturdays 1 to 4 pm. Other times by request for 3 or more.

Mandy &/or assistant will be on hand for advice. 

Clay available at $30 per 25 # bag, or $1.50 per pound. Firing fees calculated at 4c per cubic inch for raku (cone 07), 5c per cubic inch for stoneware 

(cone 3), including bisque firing and a selection of glazes.  

Regulars / students 4 sessions for 60-, bring a guest 20- per session. 

Group and Individual classes, “ClayDay” Birthday Parties etc. arranged to suit occasion.

June 2nd, 2008 Claywork of all Kinds

Small classes of up to 8 students. Specializing in Raku Sculpture, Figures, Animals, and Tile, plus clay musical instruments, low and high-firing, many other ceramic/artistic interests (Arawak style pit-firing, life-drawing classes… silk and fabric painting, watercolor – see site links).

June 2nd, 2008 New to Clay Class

Saturdays 9.30-12.30 (also weekdays upon request for 4 or more). Book by telephone: (340) 773-2022

Four 3hr minute sessions, $200 for series.
(Firing fees apply for work produced from week 3, assessed at 4c/ cubic inch)

Week 1: Introduction to clay properties, hydration, plasticity, texture etc. Wedging clay, use of grog etc. Making a slip cup. Making a pinch pot creature, adding appendages, score and slip techniques, making a clay whistle, texturing and smoothing techniques. Coil-building a small vessel, decorating with coil handles, coil animals, patterns rolled in, openwork, 3lb clay provided.

Week 2: Handrolling slabs, throwing slabs, building with patterned pieces, pre-texturing with plants, textiles, found objects, to produce a planter, utensil or similar. Glazing of previous weeks’ work. 5lb clay provided.

Week 3: Starting project to complete by week 4 – eg. house sign/ tray with Asian style cups, plates etc./lighting sconce/ larger animal sculpture. 10 – 15lb clay provided. Glazing work from weeks 1, 2.

Week 4: Complete project, complete glazing of other work. Demonstration of Raku firing. Firing fees will be assessed by size of work at 4c / cubic inch.
